Dr. Mike Higgins is a board-certified veterinary neurologist with over 20 years of experience managing complex brain and spinal conditions in pets. Known for his attentive, client-centered approach, he combines advanced neurosurgical skill with precise MRI and neuroimaging to deliver effective, individualized care for each patient. Whether guiding families through difficult diagnoses or celebrating successful recoveries, Dr. Higgins and his team provide clear communication and compassionate support at every step.
He earned his DVM at Ross University, completed clinical training at North Carolina State University, and completed a rigorous neurology residency and Master’s degree at Virginia Tech, where his research focused on oligodendrogliomas in dogs. Throughout his career, he has contributed to veterinary research, mentored young veterinarians, and provided continuing education at local general practice hospitals.
Dr. Higgins leads a team of skilled and caring nurses in the Neurology department, ensuring every patient receives individualized attention and compassionate care. After years of performing advanced neurosurgery in a busy Vancouver metropolitan hospital, Dr. Higgins chose to bring his expertise and high-level experience to the Ventura community. He treats patients from Ventura, Santa Barbara, and the San Fernando Valley, and also welcomes clients from San Luis Obispo, Kern, and Fresno counties.
Outside of work, Dr. Higgins enjoys spending time in nature with his artist wife, young son, their gentle whippet, and spirited orange tabby cat. His love for animals inspires his dedication and care he brings to every patient he treats.
