Dr. Mike Higgins, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology), is a board-certified neurologist at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) in Ventura.
Dr. Mike Higgins is a board-certified veterinary neurologist with over 20 years of experience managing complex brain and spinal conditions in pets. Known for his respected, dependable expertise and attentive, client-centered care, he and his team provide exceptional compassion and clear communication at every step of diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Higgins combines advanced neurosurgical skill with precise MRI and neuroimaging to deliver effective, individualized care for each patient.
He earned his DVM at Ross University, completed clinical training at North Carolina State University, and finished a neurology residency and Master’s degree at Virginia Tech, where his research focused on oligodendrogliomas in dogs. Throughout his career, he has contributed to veterinary research, mentored young veterinarians, and provided continuing education at local general practice hospitals.
Dr. Higgins leads a team of skilled and caring nurses in the Neurology department, ensuring every patient receives individualized attention and compassionate care. He treats patients from Ventura, Santa Barbara, and the San Fernando Valley, and also welcomes clients from San Luis Obispo, Kern, and Fresno counties.
Outside of work, Dr. Higgins enjoys spending time in nature with his artist wife, young son, their gentle whippet, and spicy orange tabby cat. His love for animals inspires the same dedication and care he brings to every patient he treats.
