Dr. Melissa Herrera

Dr. Melissa Herrera, a native of Southern California, attended Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo receiving a degree in Biology. Following graduation, Dr. Herrera received her veterinary degree in 2003 at Mississippi State University followed by a small animal rotating internship at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group. After completing a Small Animal Internal Medicine residency in 2007 at the University of California, Davis and achieving board certification, she stayed and joined the faculty at UC Davis for an additional 2 ½ years. Dr. Herrera returned to VMSG in 2010 and is excited to be back. Her professional interests include immune-mediated disease, infectious disease, endocrinology, and nephrology. Dr. Herrera has published journal articles and textbook chapters on adrenal tumors (pheochromocytoma), immune-mediated thrombocytopenia and is currently working on two journal publications on immune-mediated polyarthritis and immunosuppressive medications. Her personal interests include hiking, traveling, wine tasting, concerts, and she is an avid Lakers and Dodgers fan.
