CVMA Certified Interns
Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group is home to a highly competitive post-graduate internship training program, certified by the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). VMSG admits only veterinarians who have graduated at the top of their respective Veterinary Schools. These Intern Doctors apply and are placed though the facility working in intimate association with our staff specialists. These highly competent doctors provide 24 hour critical care to all hospitalized patients and are never more than a cell phone call away from a staff specialist.
Dr. Jennifer Dasse was born and raised in Needham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Simmons College with a double major in biology and psychology before attending Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys hiking, camping, and backpacking, as well as live music and karaoke. She lives with her exuberant sphynx cat, Finley, recently adopted chihuahua, Alice, and her boyfriend, Tyler. She is happiest when surrounded by her beloved pets and reading classic literature or exploring the forest or the desert with her boyfriend.
Dr. Dasse’s professional interests include neurology and emergency/critical care. She hopes to stay in Southern California and pursue a career in emergency or general private practice.
Dr. Shawnon Kaiser is a Northern California native hailing from the Sonoma County area. She received her BS from UC Davis, her DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at Cornell University. While at UC Davis she was blessed to have the opportunity to complete an internship with Dr. Sophia Yin in animal behavior.
She recently traveled to the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador where she volunteered with Darwin Animal Doctors. While on the islands she worked spaying and neutering local pets, providing medical care, and assisting with public education.
Outside of the hospital, Shawnon enjoys traveling, being outdoors, wine tasting, costuming/crafting, and almost anything Disney. Shawnon learned to sew when she was young and loved to create her own outfits and replicas. Her boyfriend Shawn is a master costume and prop builder who runs a large workshop in the North Bay.
Shawnon and Shawn currently have one dog named Leeloo, a coconut retriever, who was rescued from the Caribbean island of St Kitts. Leeloo is now enjoying the wine country good life and goes to work every day with Shawn.
Dr. Kaiser is thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside the amazing specialists at VMSG and to broaden her knowledge base during her internship year. She has a special interest in surgery and plans to pursue board certification.
